Update on Who needs Limbaugh: Gloria Steinem, Kim Gandy from NOW, and other feminist leaders wrote a letter to the president of NBC complaining that over the years, Chris Matthews comments "demonstrate a larger pattern of overt sexism when discussing women."Matthews responded on last night's Hardball:
"Was it fair to imply that Hillary's whole career depended on being a victim of an unfaithful husband? No," Matthews said. "That's what it sounded like I was saying and it hurt people I'd like to think normally like what I say (and), in fact, like me."
No, Chris, you didn't "imply" and it didn't "sound like." Your exact words were:
"Let's not forget, and I'll be brutal, the reason she's a U.S. senator, the reason she's a candidate for president, the reason she may be a front-runner, is that her husband messed around. We keep forgetting it. She didn't win it on the merits..."
I'm thinking Matthews must have got his ass chewed pretty good because last night he also said:
"I will try to be clearer, smarter, more obviously in support of the right of women, of all people, to full equality of respect and ambition."
And no, Chris, I don't like you. Never did.

Are there no punishments anymore, not even any societal aversion, for assholes like Matthews? I'd like to beat him with a baseball bat, but I'd be satisfied if we just practiced some good old-fashioned Shunning! No, we won't, because no one in America even remembers the notion of avoiding contact with such self-satisfied and empty-headed twits.
